THE ARCHITECTURE OF COLOUR (IV)

This is the fourth iteration of The Architecture of Colour. Each exhibition has inevitably included works by Imi Knoebel – indisputably one of the greatest colourists of our time along with Winston Roeth and indeed Tomislav Nikolic. But now we have the opportunity to present new paintings by Ian Davenport, Mark Francis, Bill Culbert and Lucienne O’Mara each of whom add joyfully in this chromatic party.

Colour is, for each of them a fundamental constituent in their work because it is a fundamental element in their sensory existence. It animates their consciousness in the same way that music does for many – it is almost like air and water.

Each version of The Architecture of Colour has also made it clear that for these painters colour is capable of not only animating the heart and the soul, but that it is structural – both the architecture and compositions of their paintings and indeed their wider world is measured and ultimately understood through the infinite lexicon of colour.

Fox Jensen McCrory are delighted to present The Architecture of Colour IV where Bill Culbert’s luminous neon grids, Imi Knoebel’s sliding geometric collages, Ian Davenport’s gravity fed zips, Mark Francis’s oscillating colour-codes, Tomislav Nikolic’s Baroque ensembles, Lucienne O’Mara’s flagrantly gestural grids and Winston’s Roeth gloriously iridescent topographies are united by colour, by light and sensation… and architecture.
