Fox Jensen & Fox Jensen McCrory are delighted to announce the acquisition of a major new gallery space in Sydney.
Located on the corner of Brennan and McEvoy Streets in Alexandria, the new space will allow the galleries’ artists to present work in a site befitting the ambition of their vision.
Andrew Jensen opened his first gallery in 1988, and in the decades since, the gallery has quietly and organically transformed to become the most international gallery in Australasia. This extensive program is sustained and enriched by the energies and enthusiasms of artists from the United Kingdom, from Europe and the USA – and of course Australia and New Zealand.
This proposition is substantiated by the shared aspiration the artists have to ‘make’. This commitment to work that is conceptually and aesthetically mature, invests the gallery with what has been described as “a certain classical position.”
This may appear at times to be out of step with fashion and if that is indeed the case, then hallelujah. The galleries’ aim is to present work with real care and consideration – with the thoughtful judgement that their artists bring to their own practice.
The galleries publish catalogues regularly, beautiful yet modest documents that collectively seek to demonstrate something of the sensibility that underpins the galleries and artists’ approach.
In 2010 Jensen Gallery became Fox Jensen/Sydney & Auckland – and a few years hence, Fox Jensen/Auckland became Fox Jensen McCrory. The individual energies of Emma Fox & Sarah McCrory are extraordinary, but together the dictum “the whole is greater than the sum of the parts” is absolutely proven true.
2025 looms as a significant gear change for the galleries, much welcomed after the longer than intended hiatus for the Sydney gallery. Whilst this has not been without its frustrations, we are thrilled to be finally attending to a wealth of exhibitions, artist visits and projects
We look forward to welcoming you to the new gallery early in 2025 and news will emerge shortly as to the busy shape of the program, including the international visiting artists, the Melbourne Art Fair, Aotearoa Art Fair and Art Basel Hong Kong.
